Step One:
If the scratch, mark or stain hasn't broken the surface of the glass we may be able to polish it away.
By using a rotary polisher with a soft backing pad and by using a good quality glass polishing compound such as cerium oxide we can quickly remove the effected area.
Step Two:
If the scratch or stain has broken the surface of the glass we use a rotary polisher to sand back a tiny fraction of the glass down to the depth of the damage.
From here we use a combination of finer abrasive discs to feather out the worked on area into the surrounding area ensuring the glass remains flat.
This part of the process leaves a fine misty haze on the glass which then needs to be polished away.
Step Three:
To remove the misty haze left behind by the sanding process we use the same process as in step one.
Again we use a rotary polisher with a soft backing pad and a good quality glass polishing compound such as cerium oxide. We then polish away the fine misty haze and restore the glass to its best visual clarity.
Step one can usually be achieved by DIY enthusiasts who are familiar with rotary glass polishers and if the staining or scratching is very superficial.
Step two is better left in the hands of glass scratch and stain removal professionals who are skilled and experienced in what they do.
We can restore your glass without overheating the glass leading to breakage or leaving waves of visible distortion.
Superficial scratches, stains and marks:
These scratches, stains and marks that have not broken the surface of the glass and can't be felt by running your fingernail over them.
Usually a good quality glass polishing compound used in conjunction with a rotary polisher will remove them easily and quickly.
Light surface scratches and stains:
These scratches and stains have slightly broken the surface of the glass and can be felt by your fingernail when you run it over the affected area however your fingernail doesn't catch on the area.
A series of graded fine abrasive discs will need to be used to sand back the damaged area to its depth and then feather this area into its surrounding area which leaves a hazy misted appearance.
Lastly a good quality glass polishing compound like cerium oxide will be used to polish the glass restoring its best visual clarity.
Moderate to deep scratching and staining:
These scratches and stains can be truly felt when running your fingernail over them and your fingernail will catch on them.
This type of damage can take more time to remove and can be more expensive to repair. More skill and expertise are required to remove this degree of damage and the job is best left to professional glass polishers.
We are often called in to remedy distortion that has been caused by attempting to remove scratches and stains previously.
We can remediate these visual inconsistencies that can be obvious when viewing the glass from certain angles - especially at eye level.
At Glass Polish Melbourne we use a dry disc sanding method that will not overheat your glass leading to cracking or breaking of the glass.
We promise and guarantee to fully restore your scratched or stained glass to its utmost visual transparency and clarity.
Moderate to deep scratches and stains:
Scratches and stains that have broken the surface of the glass have created a weak point in the glass.
By removing that weak point we eliminate the weakened area and your glass will retain its strength and structural integrity.
Glass scratch and stain removal will not weaken or compromise the strength of your glass.
This fact has been proven in technical reports by various engineers specializing in glass damage that confirm glass restoration is perfectly safe for your glass.
Not at all, the areas of restored glass should be indistinguishable from the rest of the glass.
When you use highly skilled glass polishing technicians that specialize in glass restoration like we do at Glass Polish Melbourne your glass will be left in optimal visual condition.

We can repair deep scratches, stains and glass corrosion.
However, more of the glass surface needs to be sanded back and more work blending the affected areas into the surrounding areas must be done.
Lastly, the glass will also need to be polished to complete the process.
The process of removing deep scratches and stains will take longer than removing light to moderate scratches and stains.
We specialize in removing graffiti scratching and acid etching.
This type of damage is common on shop front windows and on commercial business display windows such as showrooms.
Other common targets include buses, trains, lifts and anywhere vandals wish to leave their mark.
No, the process itself does not create much dust or mess. We do however use drop sheets around the glass to catch any dust that might be created and we vacuum the area if it is indoors before we leave. We ensure your premises is left clean and tidy.
Any residue left on your glass from the polishing compound will be cleaned away with a squeegee and clean cloth leaving your glass both restored and sparkling clean.
Yes, we can save you up to 90% in comparison to glass replacement for large, commercial grade glass or bespoke glass panels or where installation is more complicated or requires a crane to lift the glass into its position.
We have saved large scale construction companies tens of thousands of dollars and smaller builders thousands of dollars by not having to re order, wait for and then install expensive glass panels.
We have saved business owners, homeowners, tenants, landlords and property managers substantial amounts of money by restoring their shopfront display windows, residential windows, glass doors, glass balustrades, balcony glass, glass splash backs, glass pool fencing and shower screen glass.
Yes, a job may take less than 1/2 hour. It may take a couple of hours, a day or a few days depending on the size of the job.
We will let you know how long your job will take and how much it will cost upfront.
You can always contact a glazing company to compare the cost of restoration opposed to replacement and make an informed decision.
If you want your glass restored you will not have to employ a glazing company, have your glass measured, ordered, wait for the glass to be delivered which can take weeks if it's being shipped from overseas and then wait for it to be installed.
With many building projects large and small, time equals money and having your project held up for any length of time can delay the entire building process and increase costs as well as delay handover to the owner.
Being able to hand over your project on time and on budget is a win/win for the builder and the owner.
Yes, with hundreds of thousands of tons of glass going into landfill every year and only up to 30% of glass being recycled, having your glass restored is much more environmentally friendly.
The process of manufacturing new glass and having it freighted all over the world creates increased CO 2 emissions which add to the world's ever increasing carbon footprint.
Restoring your glass where possible is a positive choice in helping to reduce landfill and helping to minimize our global carbon footprint.
